NEED HELP!!!

Question:

So please, everyone, let’s return to discussing diabetes and related issues.

My point exactly. Ms. Harrison

Response:

As one who did not have a go at the HTML link, I would refer you to my earlier posting. My software reacted to a HTML link when I tried to have a look at the MIME, I was just curious and it’s not the first time somebody has included HTML links.  I thought that a number of people had been reading on line which is why they did not notice the link, my dialler popped up which is when I noticed. I also agree, the least important part of the first post was the HTML link, a simple comment on it was all it required. Regards Pete She did NOT post a binary. I’m a USENET administrator and I checked the source of her posts. Mr. Harrison seems to be using Free AGENT which should not be showing any binary encoding in her posts. (I beileve I looked at the source of her first post and saw the same 2 part MIME text + HTML signature, but the original is expired and I didn’t save a copy of the original so I cannot be 100% certain about the original, but the subsequent ones are all 2 part text + HTML).

Shirley, Merry Christmas to you too, Anyway, welcome to you and thanks for the card, although as an off-line reader, I didn’t go back online to find it. Beav

Response:

Although inappropriate for this newsgroup, I thought that Shirley’s card was very pretty. I don’t take insulin (YET) so I can’t contribute to Shirley’s real problem.  Good Luck! Gerry

Response:

The purpose of this group is to discuss diabetes and related medical issues. I’d like to help Shirley, but about all I know about diabetes is that my condition seems to make me feel ill at 145+ mg/dl normal at 135 and hypo at 110 mg/dl or less (accuchek advantage) and that potato chips, french fries, and doughnuts really do a number on me. It sounds like multiple parties have hurt feelings and misunderstand what occurred. My examination of the posts show that she had a 2 part text + HTML post. This will result in numerous ISPs rejecting her posts, so she may wish to ask the webtv support groups how to change to 100% text posting. Mr. WIlliams also may wish to ask a similar question in one of the multipart/alternative text + HTML on at least some occasions. Your encoded Xmas card is not appropriate for posting to this newsgroup. As deb pointed out earlier, plain text is the accepted standard here. It has NOTHING to do with whether people love or hate "Xmas cheer". If you wish to spread "Xmas cheer" with encoded cards, you’ll need to find a suitable binary newsgroup to post them in.

Her posts all seem to be two part MIMEd messages containing a plain text part and a second part consisting of a *SHORT* HTML encoded signature which links to a JPEG and a MIDI file out on the net somewhere. Somewhere between 1 in 10 or 1 in 3 large North American & European ISPs will drop her HTML posts, but hers contain a lesser proportion of HTML encoding than Ron Williams’ complaint  Why would anyone post to a news groups with photos and music?  Did you do that by mistake or do you really think that the rest of us want to deal with this waste of bandwidth?

which contains 2 to 3 times the HTML of his text portion because he is using HTML posting methods in Outlook Express! Using HTML enabled newsreaders is not particularly safe because of javascript vbscript and java security exploits… so I don’t use Netscape M$ Internet Exploder or Outlook Express which do things like go grab images from the net or execute JS Java or VB scripts contained in USENET posts and email messages… If you really want to discuss this a better forum is So please, everyone, let’s return to discussing diabetes and related issues. — Mick Brown Please visit the Pro Internet Forum http://www.delphi.com/pro_internet My address is unmangled, I report spam and get the senders’ accounts yanked I registered at http://www.SafeEPS.com Email Preference Service   and said *NO* *SPAM* at all for me.

I’d be happy to talk to you about your insulin regimen, but only with your agreement that you’ll follow the accepted practices of this newsgroup and begin posting politely in plain text. High blood glucose levels can make a person quite cranky. The sooner you get off on the right foot, the sooner you can get some help! : I’m a Type 1 diabetic. : My doctor has changed my insulin to: : Ultralente 20 units , mornings & nights. : Humalog  5 units at each meal. : My problem is High BG’s : I also have a sleep problem. : If I eat a piece of candy a night at 3:00 am : I will fall back to sleep like  a baby,  But : sugar levels are around 270-375 mgs when : I wake up. : What can I do to decrease my sugar level to : around 150-200 mgs so I can eat breakfast? : I took my 20 u of Ultralente plus 10 of Humalog : one hour later is (from 351 mg to 302 mg). : I really need a guide-line to help my regulate : my BG’s.  Can anyone help me?   Please? a really good book for anyone trying to fine-tune a basal/bolus system (that’s what you’re describing) is _stop the rollercoaster_. they give you several ways to figure out if you basal doses are right and tell you how to figure out the amounts of insulin you need for various meals. i’m with peter, though; i don’t know if a basal/bolus system can work well without carb-counting and adjusting humalog doses to match the meal. lots of things are possible–your basal doses of u are too low; you’re taking too much insulin and so you’re going low then rebounding to very high levels… it’s really hard to say on the information you’ve presented. i think your best bet would be to get hold of _stop the rollercoaster_ and use it to help you adjust your doses and schedules. finally, your christmas cheer, well-intentioned as it is, is a violation of netiquette. we don’t all use the same newsreader you do–for instance, i use a unix-based newsreader called tin, so all i see at the end of your message is: : <HTML : <BODY BGCOLOR="BLACK"TEXT="GOLD" : <BGSOUND src="http://musicshoppe.com/christmas-midi/files/havxms-2.mid" : Shirley : <BR : <BR : <BR : <BR : <CENTER : <IMG SRC="http://www.racersworld.com/~deb/christmas/xmasgivn.jpg" : width=500 height=200 : </CENTER : </BODY : </HTML other people may see gibberish. other people may have weirder problems with encountering html in their newsreader. since you have no control over what newsreaders people choose to use, it’s best to try to keep your posts in simple ascii text and provide a link to the fancy stuff. that way, people are more likely to read what you have to say. — sine | deb wishing some isp’s would stop encouraging people to "pretty up" their communications.

I went back and looked at the HTML section as I didn’t the first time thinking it was just repeat text.  I doubt that Shirley did it deliberately but my NET connection was called and tried dialling in to connect to a link in the HTML.  Don’t know what it was as I stopped the dialler (actually I stopped it 5 times as it tried 4 repeat dials. As I didn’t get any graphics or music in the HTML file I suspect you were online when you opened the post and the Link was called. I didn’t get any extra bandwidth, though the dialler kicking in did wake me up a bit. Regards Pete    Why would anyone post to a news groups with photos and music?
