Question:
I cant get hold of the web page
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have a request to make of the regular posters here. I’ve written a children’s mystery novel for the 9-12 age group, titled THE SPENCER GIRLS: THE MYSTERY OF THE DOLL IN THE WINDOW. It features a 10-year-old dyslexic heroine, and if all goes well, it will be the start of a series. It’s an ebook, BTW; it’s available on floppy disk. I’ve created a Web site to announce it (the URL is "http://www.geocities.com/dsfelipe/spencergirls/spencergirls.htm"). It has the table of contents, the first two chapters, and a link to the company where the ebook can be ordered. Since the majority of you who frequent this board have dyslexia yourselves, I thought I’d request your feedback. Would you please take a look at the two chapters posted and tell me what you think? You, better than anyone, understand what it’s like to have dyslexia and would be able to tell me whether or not I managed to get the gist of it. (Two chapters aren’t really enough to allow you to tell me much, I know. All I request is that you give me what feedback you can.) Thanks! Yours truly, Kathy Green http://community-1.webtv.net/kgreen20/KATHYSPAGE http://www.geocities.com/dsfelipe/spencergirls/spencergirls.htm

I would use larger print (in Ch. 2) – at least 14 pts, put more space between the words more so there is an obivous distinction and give it at least a 1.5 line spacing if not a full 2.0. Regular 12 pt type with regular spacing between words and line spacing at 1.0 is too close for kids with any sort of visual discrimination problem to easily read. I would also change the type face to Century Gothic, because those a’s that look like upside down g’s are awful hard on some eyes. Also, find an editor. I noticed that you are not using punctuation properly…. such as neglecting to use quotation marks around a quote. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have a request to make of the regular posters here. I will have a look at the quotes listed in the two chapters, SF, and see which ones are lacking the proper quotation marks. As for the font and sizing, I didn’t put it on Geocites; a friend of mine did that for me after I typed it on my WebTV Page Builder. So she’s responsible for any font and size errors, alas. =) As for the font found in the ebook itself, since I don’t have a computer, I don’t have the floppy disk version either, but I’m sure it’s quite different from that found on the Web site. Looking back over my initial request, I can see I should have been more specific. Here’s the feedback I’d like to have. Do the events that occur in Chapters 1 and 2 ring true to you? I mean, do they come across as things that could have really happened? Those of you who have dyslexia yourselves are in a good position to give me the feedback I request, since you know from first-hand experience what it’s like. Thanks!
